Converter Service-based Import and Export

Given that users manage model data in various formats, most prominently Microsoft Excel, but itemis SECURE can’t support importing and exporting to all these formats simultaneously, we established a Converter Service. This service is tightly integrated into the tool and enables importing and exporting from and to different formats.

For most of these Converter Service-based imports and exports, you have to configure a service endpoint in the settings. The Service URL can be set up as follows: File → Settings → Appearance & Behavior → itemis SECURE General

A Converter Service usually converts between XSAM and the desired other format. Communication with itemis SECURE is conducted purely through XSAM. If you need a specific Converter for your purposes, we can assist you in developing a custom converter solution that will be hosted in your internal infrastructure. Feel free to reach out to us through the usual channel if there is a need and interest on your end. We are at your disposal to discuss the details.

Please be aware that a Converter Service is provided via a network and might be unavailable, if you use itemis SECURE with a borrowed Floating License offline or outside your internal infrastructure.

Importing Excel files

Many users already have existing Excel files to perform a TARA. We offer two approaches to import this data into itemis SECURE to ease the transition.

The first approach uses our own itemis Excel Template. This template file can be found in the SECUREExamples folder that will be created in your user-folder upon starting itemis SECURE. In its default version, it contains the same information as the ISOExample. You can remove the content and fill the sheets with your existing TARA model data. Then you can import the TARA data into a selected model. This action doesn’t need a configured Service endpoint as it uses our own conversion. The Converter Service will convert the Excel file into an XSAM file, and the result of this conversion will be imported into itemis SECURE.

For a custom Excel template/format import, you can use a tailored Converter Service that parses model data from the respective Excel sheets and uses an XSAM import to load the model data into itemis SECURE. To use such a converter, you need a web service in your internal infrastructure that is reachable (without authentication) from within your network. We offer to develop such a converter solution based on format specifications or existing example files that meet your requirements. The endpoint of this web service has to be specified in the itemis SECURE settings as stated before. Once the URL is configured, you will have access to the Import Custom Excel File into Current Model action, allowing you to load your model from Excel files directly within itemis SECURE.

Please note that this custom import option is only available after configuring a Service endpoint and if the compatible Converter Service is reachable.

Exporting Excel files

Export Model to Custom Excel File

For a custom Excel template export, you can make use of a tailored Converter Service that uses an XSAM export of your model to fill in the respective Excel sheets. In order to use such a converter, you need a web service in your internal infrastructure that is reachable (without authentification) from within your own network. We offer to develop such a converter solution for you based on format specifications or existing example files. The endpoint of this web service has to be specified in the itemis SECURE settings as shown before. Once the URL is configured, you will have access to a second export action which will let you save your model as Excel files directly from within itemis SECURE.

Please note that this export option is only available after configuring a Service endpoint and if a compatible Converter Service is reachable.
