itemis SECURE can be purchased through Named User and Floating licensing schemes. Named User licenses are tied to individuals and can be used by the person until the end of the license period. Floating licenses offer a pool of licenses, that can be shared by multiple users and used concurrently until the maximum number of concurrent users is reached.
The Named User license is provided as a file and must be placed in the USERPROFILE\.itemis directory. This way, your license can be automatically used by other itemis SECURE versions.
The tool supports Floating licenses via the network based license management tool LM-X License Manager from X-Formation. Because Floating licenses are managed by this license server, its users need to stay connected to this server while they use itemis SECURE. When itemis SECURE is closed, the license becomes instantly available to other users. Since it’s not possible to stay connected in every situation, Floating licenses offer two features which will enable users to work without this connection for a specific amount of time:
While the Floating license (not the actually borrowed one) expires at the end of the expiration- or end-date, the License Borrowing isn’t available during the last day, specifically in the final 24 hours of the licensed period. This means, the auto borrowing period can only extend up to these last 24 hours.
As long as you aren’t working with a borrowed license and therefor need to stay connected to the license server, itemis SECURE will regularly ping the server to confirm a connection. If three consecutive pings fail, it takes about 4,5 minutes, itemis SECURE will save your projects and shutdown. At the same time your license will become available again for everyone on the license server.
If the central license management shall be used, a configuration file named yml.properties has to be placed in the USERPROFILE\.itemis directory. Your administrator will preconfigure this file with the license server address and the available Floating license features associated with your license and provide it to you.
